Fisherwomen of the month: Nelly Scapparone

My name is Nelly Scapparone and I am 39 years, I come from a family of fishermen: both my father and grandfather were members of this noble profession. When I was little I used to go fishing, but then I chose not to follow this profession. I decided, nevertheless, to follow the long tradition of my town Monterosso. Here, since ever, men go fishing and women stay at home to salt fish for winter. We call it the “Pan du mar”, the bread of winter. “Il pan du Mar” has always been an important resource to feed fishermen and their families during the winter months.
