Fisheries, Minister Catania met in Brussels European Commissioner Damanaki

“The meeting with Commissioner Damanaki was very positive because it allowed us to highlight the main issues concerning the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). In particular, I pointed out to the Commissioner the need to confirm basic measures to protect the Italian fish stocks and the sector, such as the fishing halt that I asked to refinance with EU funds. We also discussed the measures on discarding: I understand were it would go but for which I think a ‘phasing out’ period would be useful.
